- Order promptly arrived in heavy duty tube. Lucas ensured I ordered the right set for my bike.
- The Xpel Ultimate material is really amazing. It’s very forgiving and looks great when done. The die cut pieces were exact fit, with some stretching needed for some pieces. What I learned:
1) Do the application in a well-lit and clean shop. (My lighting should have been better)
2) Clean the surfaces at least twice. And for those areas that get high speed bugs, clean again.
3) For each piece to be applied, develop a plan. Determine where to start the application, line up the film to a reference edge, anchor that spot and work the rest of the film away and down from the anchor.
4) When the film edge is on a bend in the surface, the film will pucker at the edge. Be patient and work the material with the microfiber cloth as described in the instructions.
5) As you remove the film from the backing paper, spray the adhesive side with the slip solution. Large pieces are especially tricky to handle. If the film accidently adheres to itself adhesive side to adhesive side, without the slip solution, it is really difficult to separate the film.
6) I ordered a complete set with many pieces. This order came on a single roll. Using scissors, I cut each individual piece from the roll to make it easier to handle. I’m not sure if that was the right thing to do because I lost a film piece. I think while gathering up backing paper without film I grabbed one with film, and threw it away. Trashman came that same day. Don’t repeat my dumb mistake.
7) Anal retentive perfectionists will suffer during film application. While I strived get all air bubbles out there’s still a few small ones present, even though I inspected with eyes and hand, multiple times. Film alignment to edges will not be precise. Ya can’t get it perfect. But you can get it near perfect.

I had been using Tankslapper films from 2011, I buy their protection for EVERY new motorcycle that I add to my stable.
It is always a pleasure to work with Lucas, he answer your emails ASAP and he always gave me a GREAT customer service. He always use the best material, not cutting corners. Last week I saw one of my bikes that I sold to a friend, I installed the film about 5 years ago and it looks as new!

While it can seem daunting, the process and results are fantastic. Watch the videos, use lots of spray, and remember to take your time. We amateurs will never do it like those pros on screen. I’m the hands of a pro, this stuff is like diamond-plating. But even a klutz like me can get excellent results and preserve the finish. Also: this can be done in cold weather, but it takes a lot of floodlights and hairdryers. Plu, you’ll never get the stretch quite right. A warm day above 80F really helps, warming the bike in the sun is genius. Thanks Tankslapper!
